Luc Alfons De Hovre

Luc Alfons De Hovre SJ ( born February 27, 1926 in Nederbrakel, Belgium, † June 4, 2009 in Leuven, Belgium) was auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Mechelen -Brussels.

Life

Luc Alfons De Hovre joined the Congregation of the Society of Jesus at in Drongen and received on 10 May 1958, the ordination. From 1959 to 1964 he was prefect of the Sint -Jan Berchmanscollege in Brussels, then rector and director of the Jesuit Sint- Jozef College Turnhout. In 1971 he was appointed novice master of the Flemish province of the Jesuits, in September 1975 he was appointed Provincial Superior of the Flemish Jesuit and chairman of the Committee of European Jesuit provinces. From 1982 to 2002 he was Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Mechelen- Brussels.

Pope John Paul II appointed him in 1982 as Titular Bishop of Domnach Sechnaill and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Mechelen -Brussels. He received his episcopal consecration on March 28, 1982, the Archbishop of Mechelen- Brussels and later Cardinal Godfried Danneels; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Jaipur, Philip Ekka, SJ, Paul Constant Schoenmaekers, Auxiliary Bishop of Mechelen- Brussels, Jozef De Kesel Leo Karel, Auxiliary Bishop of Ghent, and Jean -Baptiste Musty, Auxiliary Bishop of Namur. He was a member of the Belgian Bishops' Conference.
