Luca Giordano

Luca Giordano ( Naples * 1634, † January 12, 1705 ibid ), called Fa Presto, was an Italian painter and etcher.

He enjoyed the lessons Ribera, but remained beside under the direction of his father, who wanted to derive maximum profit from the skill Giordano in the Drawing. So Giordano recorded the rooms and loggias of Raphael in the Vatican twelve times, the battle Constantine probably twenty times and no less frequently the masterpieces of Michelangelo, Polidoro, inter alia,

His father resistant acclamation: " Luca, fa presto! " ( " Luca, hurry up !") Should have this gives his nickname. In this way, although Giordano acquired a great skill, but also laid the foundation for its superficiality. Probably the paternal breed tired, he went to Rome, where he da Cortona was the pupil and friend of Pietro, and then visited the main cities of Italy. His talent to imitate any style, earned him the nickname of " Proteus, the painter ". An invention he was extremely rich, thoroughly familiar with the perspective and excellent at free, solid brushwork especially in soft and harmonious flavor. In contrast, his works can miss the depth characteristic, it moves usually within a few character types. His slight hand and the mass orders he received to quickly decorate the palaces of the Italian Grand with frescoes and oil paintings, often seduced him too much neglect and finally to a disgusting manner. Among his frescoes are those in the Tesoro is the Charterhouse, from his mature age, the preference. A large altarpiece with the Jesuits at Naples ( Francis Xavier, the Japanese baptizing ) he is said to have completed within 1 1/2 days. In Florence, he painted in the dome of Corsini Chapel and later the gallery Riccardi.

In 1690 he was appointed to Spain, where he lived for 13 years and was appointed by Charles II knighted. Among his most distinguished works are those in the church of San Lorenzo del Escorial.

After the death of Charles II he returned to the homeland and died on January 12, 1705 in Naples.
