Luca Sbisa

Luca Sbisa ( born January 30, 1990 in Ozieri, Italy ) is a Swiss ice hockey player of Italian descent. Since 2009 he is with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Born in the Italian Ozieri Sbisa grew up in the Swiss Oberägeri and began his career in the young field of EV train. From 2006 he played for the elite A- juniors of the club and was in the 2006 /07 his debut in the National League A for the first team of EV train. Overall, he completed eight NLA games for the club, but was used in the first division EHC Seewen Hertistrasse in the first league to use. To increase his chances of a good draft position, he moved to North America in the summer of 2007 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League, where he was among the top performers in the team. After a successful for him personally verlaufenen U20 World Cup 2008, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2008 in the first round at a total of 19 out of the Philadelphia Flyers.

As part of the training camps of the Flyers in the fall of 2008, Sbisa could be distinguished by a good defensive play and for his age, excellent game overview, so that he stood at the beginning of the 2008 /09 NHL squads of the Flyers. He also signed on 1 October 2008 a three-year contract with the Flyers. After a few games in the first half of the season for the Flyers sent him this during the season back in the WHL. As part of the NHL Entry Draft 2009 Sbisa was transferred on 26 July 2009, together with Joffrey Lupul and some draft picks to the Anaheim Ducks. In return, Chris Pronger and Ryan Dingle changed to Philadelphia.

At the beginning of the season 2009/10 he was a member of the first NHL squad of Ducks, but was sent in October 2009 back to his junior team. In January, he was sent in exchange for Jacob Berglund and Daniel Johnston to the Portland Winter Hawks.

Since the season 2010/2011 Sbisa is part of the permanent staff in the Ducks defense and he is particularly distinguished by his physical game. On December 28, 2010 game against the Phoenix Coyotes Luca Sbisa scored his first goal in the NHL. He hit for a 1-0 lead. In the end, the Ducks won 3-1.

In March 2011, Sbisa extended his contract with the Anaheim Ducks to the end of the season 2014/15 and will receive a total of $ 8,700,000. In his second season as a regular player with the Anaheim Ducks Sbisa reach five goals and 19 assists, while the Ducks missed mainly due to a very poor first half of the season, the playoffs. Due to the lockout in the NHL, he returned in September 2012 to return to Switzerland and played until the end of December for the HC Lugano. During the Spengler Cup 2012, he played as a guest player for the Adler Mannheim.

Internationally

Luca Sbisa participated with the Swiss national team at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver. He reached the rank eighth tournament with the team.
