Lucas County (Iowa)
The Lucas County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010 had 8,898 inhabitants, the county and a population density of 8 persons per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Chariton, named after the Chariton River.
Geography
The County is located in southern Iowa, is about 40 miles from Missouri away and has an area of 1,124 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers of water surface. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The Lucas County was formed in 1846 from parts of the former Monroe County. It was named for Robert Lucas (1781-1853), a governor of Ohio (1832-1836) and later Territorial Governor of Iowa ( 1838-1841 ).
