Lucas de Groot

Luc (as) de Groot Adrianus Wilhelmus ( born June 21, 1963 in Noordwijkerhout, Netherlands) is a Dutch type designer and typographer. He designed, inter alia, the typeface of the news magazine Der Spiegel, the TV channel ARD, the computer manufacturer Sun Microsystems, the SPD and the German newspaper taz.

Life

Lucas de Groot originally wanted to be a painter, but his work was already in his school days in Noordwijkerhout graphical in nature. Predominantly graphical in nature was also his employees as a student newspaper editorial board. From 1982 to 1987 he studied at Gerrit Noordzij at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, which is known for their writings. De Groot's priorities during the study were type design, photography and illustration. A prototype of his later perfected writing thesis, then called Para thesis, he used other self-designed fonts in his thesis.

Between 1989 and 1993, Lucas de Groot worked in the renowned design agency BRS Premsela Vonk to corporate design projects. Here he also developed TheMix that Halbserif family of the thesis. He then went to Berlin to MetaDesign, where he developed the thesis and completed. A special, hitherto unknown feature of the thesis was to her above-average character wealth. From the late 1990s led de Groot, the Berlin type design office font factory and own type foundry LucasFonts. He also teaches as a professor of type design at the Fachhochschule Potsdam.
