Lucerne S-Bahn

The S-Bahn Luzern was opened in the first phase on 12 December 2004 and is part of the project S -Bahn central Switzerland, which also includes the light rail train belongs.

Since Lucerne has a head station, but - unlike, say, in the Zurich area - no major investments were made in infrastructure, there is the S -Bahn from Lucerne renamed regional trains. Accordingly, there is no diameter lines. The standard gauge access ( built in 1897 ) to Lucerne Train Station is very busy, which makes it impossible to set up inner-city stops on this section. Outside this bottle neck some new stations were opened. The focus of investment is put in the next few years on the double-track extension of the meter-gauge access to Lucerne Train Station.

Wing concept Emmental / Lucerne hinterland

Since 12 December 2010, the S 6 is operated by the wing system. From Lucerne operate 2 trains coupled together to Wolhusen. In Wolhusen they are separated. The one Zugsteil goes to Langnau in Emmental and the other to Huttwil and Langenthal. On the way back both trains are recombined in Wolhusen and drive together to Lucerne on. The line is operated since that time by the BLS AG alone, until then the SBB was involved and there were SBB and BLS NPZ NPZ used. Now is the BLS unit trains with automatic clutches to allow the rapid separation and domes of the trains in Wolhusen. First, these are the 2/8 be Stadler GTW rail, according to their planned sale to the SBB Niñas will be used.

Lowering of Central Railway

It was decided to move the route of the lines S 4 and S 5 between the Luzern train station and Kriens Mattenhof under the ground. The construction work was started in December 2008. The underground route consists of two tunnels, the mining techniques Hubelmatttunnel broken and the resulting cover method Allmendfeld tunnel. In Allmendfeld tunnel and the underground station Lucerne Allmendfeld was built, making the sports and exhibition facilities are accessible from Lucerne. The new line was put into operation on November 12, 2012, the station was served Allmendfeld the timetable change on 9 December 2012 for the first time. Because adjustments to the railway tracks in the train station entrance Lucerne keep the S -Bahn trains of the S 4 only in the direction Dallenwil and the traits of the S 5 only in the direction of Lucerne. From the timetable change in December 2013, both lines are to the bus stop each serve half hour in both directions. Due to the displacement of a clock every 15 minutes between Lucerne and Hergiswil is made .
