Lucian Pintilie

Lucian Pintilie ( born November 9, 1933 Tarutino, Bessarabia, now Ukraine) is a Romanian film director, actor and screenwriter.

Career

Pintilie studied at the Bucharest theater and film school ( Institutul de arta şi Teatrală Cinematografica " IL Caragiale " ) and directed after completing his studies at the Bucharest theater Bulandra numerous pieces. As an actor he appeared in the 1963 film Valurile Dunarii ( Waves of the Danube ) by the director Liviu Ciulei with. His debut as a film director was the film Duminică la ora 6 ( Sunday at 6, 1965). Reconstituirea ( Reconstruction, 1968) was his second film in Romania. Directors like Pintilie and Radu Gabrea represent the short but internationally acclaimed Romanian film of the departure at the end of the 1960s.

He was from 1974 to 1988 at the Théâtre national de Chaillot active. In parallel, he also worked on the production of several operas. For the Yugoslav television, he has directed the film Paviljon broj VI ( Ward No. 6, 1978) based on the short story by Anton Chekhov.

For the shooting of De ce contract clopotele, Mitică? ( Why do I ring the bell, Mitică? 1982) he returned to Romania. The film was, however, already prohibited during the shooting and its premiere was not held until 1990.

His work as a film director in Romania, he continued after its reintroduction in 1990. His post-revolutionary works include significant films of the Romanian cinema: Balanta (Le Chêne - Tree of Hope, 1992), Un été inoubliable ( An unforgettable summer, 1994), Prea Târziu (murder underground, 1996), Terminus Paradise ( 1998) Dupa - amiaza unui torţionar ( The Afternoon of a torturer, 2001), Niki et Flo ( Niki and Flo, 2003). For the films " Prea Târziu ", "Terminus Paradise" and " dupa - amiaza unui torţionar " Lucian Pintilie also wrote the screenplays.

His book Bricabrac appeared in 2003 in the Romanian publishing house Humanitas.
