Luciano Spalletti

Luciano Spalletti ( born March 7, 1959 in Certaldo, Italy ) is a retired Italian footballer and current football coach.

Coaching career

Spalletti began his coaching career in the 1993/94 season at FC Empoli. In 1998 he moved to Sampdoria. He remained there for a year and then moved on to coach AC Venice. He brought in the season 1999/2000 the feat twice in the season from the same club to be laid off. After the failed engagement with AC Venice Spalletti hired for the 2000/01 season at Udinese Calcio.

In 2001, he coached Ancona Calcio, but went after a year back to Udinese. In the season 2004/ 05 he led Udinese Calcio with the fourth place in the Champions League. That was until this time its time most successful coach. He then signed with AS Roma a two year contract and succeeds Bruno Conti, who resigned after the defeat in the cup final against Inter Milan. With the Roma Spalletti put a series of eleven games without defeat out (even in the derby against Lazio Rome) and came originally only fifth place. Due to the football scandal and points deductions for some clubs AS Roma but was be ranked in second place, which he was present with his team in the Champions League and was there until the quarterfinals. There, however, was against Manchester United terminus (2:1 / h, 1:7 / a).

In the 2006/07 season with AS Roma Spalletti was again runner-up and won his first title, the Coppa Italia final against champions Inter Milan.

The 2007/08 season began with the success in the Supercoppa Italiana against champions Inter Milan in the Champions League they managed again to the quarter- final, where Manchester United was terminal again. In the championship Spalletti was again runner-up ( three points behind Inter Milan ), but his team could repeat the triumph in the Coppa Italia against Inter Milan.

When Roma Spalletti was elected twice to Italy coach of the year. On September 1, 2009, however, Luciano Spalletti resigned as coach of the Romans after the Roma had lost the two opening games of the season 2009/10. His successor was Claudio Ranieri.

In December 2009, Spalletti signed a three -year contract with Zenit St Petersburg. In May 2010 he won with his team the national cup and in November also the championship. On March 11, 2014, he was dismissed for Erfolgslosigkeit and interim basis, replaced by his former assistant Sergei Bogdanovich Semak. He was replaced by André Villas- Boas.
