Lucien DeBlois

Lucien DeBlois ( born June 21, 1957 in Joliette, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, who in his active years from 1973 to 1992 among others for the New York Rangers, Colorado Rockies, Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens, Quebec Nordiques and Toronto Maple Leafs played in the National Hockey League.

Career

Lucien DeBlois started his career as a hockey player with the Eperviers de Sorel, for which he was active in the Canadian Junior Football League QMJHL 1973-1977. He was then selected in the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 in the first round as a whole eighth player from the New York Rangers. In addition, it chose the Quebec Nordiques of the World Hockey Association in the WHA Amateur Draft of the same year, however, the attacker decided to accept the offer of the New York Rangers. For the team from New York City, he spent two years playing in the National Hockey League, before he, along with Pat Hickey, Mike McEwen, Dean Turner was issued in exchange for Barry Beck to the Colorado Rockies on November 2, 1979. The Rockies also spent two seasons.

From 1981 to 1984 DeBlois stood for the Winnipeg Jets in the NHL on the ice. He was then was transferred in exchange for Perry Turnbull to the Montreal Canadiens. With the team from Quebec, he won in the 1985/86 season for the first and only time in his career the prestigious Stanley Cup. He scored 14 goals in 72 games and gave an additional 17 templates. After this success, he returned to the New York Rangers, where he began his NHL career. There he spent three seasons before he half years for the Quebec Nordiques, who were also changed in the meantime, after the dissolution of the WHA to the NHL. At the beginning of the season 1990/91 Toronto Maple Leafs took the left-handed shooters under contract. His career ended, however, with his former club Winnipeg Jets, he also just before the trade deadline in the 1991/92 season in exchange for Mark Osborne was changed, at the age of 35 years.

After end of his career as a player DeBlois worked first as head coach of the Moncton Alpines of the QMJHL, and then for two years as an assistant coach for the Kansas City Blades of the International Hockey League in the 1995/96 season. On the occasion of the Heroes of Hockey Game, which took place as part of the NHL All- Star Games, in 2001 he packed once the skates.

Internationally

For DeBlois Canada participated in the 1981 World Championship, where he finished fourth with his team.
