Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer

Lucien Lévy- Dhurmer (actually Lucien Lévy, born September 30, 1865 in Algiers, Algeria, † September 24, 1953 in Le Vésinet in Paris) was a French painter whose main work is associated with the style of Symbolism and Art Nouveau, as well as a well-known potter.

Biography

Lucien Lévy comes from a French Jewish family. Soon it became Lévy a special talent for painting; and in 1879 sent to study art in Paris. From 1887 he lived in the South of France and devoted himself mainly of pottery. In this creative period was most evident influence of the Moorish style of Islamic art. In 1895 he returned to Paris in order to zuwidmen of painting; by a trip to Italy Lévy was strongly influenced by the Renaissance art. From 1896 he signed his oil and watercolor painting under the name Lucien Lévy- Dhurmer; he added the last two syllables of his mother ( Goldhurmer ) of birth name, to distinguish themselves from other artists with names Lévy. His works were soon the public and other artists extremely popular.
