Lucina (goddess)

Lucina was a helping at the birth goddess in Roman mythology. It is fully merged with Juno in the same function and so become the epithet of Juno. In Greek mythology, her equivalent Eileithyia.

In ancient times, the name was derived either from the Latin lucus ( " grove " ) or lux ( " light " ), because at birth the child sees the light of day. The derivation of " grove " is based, according to Pliny that the goddess on the Esquiline a sacred grove possessed with a 375 BC consecrated temples and a lotus tree of extreme old age.

According to her, the asteroid (146 ) Lucina is named.
