Lucinda Ballard

Lucinda Ballard ( born April 3, 1906 in New Orleans as Lucinda Davis Goldsborough; † August 19, 1993 in New York City ) was an American costume designer. Ballard has won several awards for their designed for film and theater costumes.

Life

Ballard was born in 1906 as the daughter of the couple, Richard and Anna Goldsborough in New Orleans. After visiting the Miss McGehee 's School she attended classes at the Art Students League in New York and went on for some time to Paris to study. In 1937, she received her first engagement and designed the costumes and the scene set for a production of William Shakespeare's As You Like It at the Ritz Theatre in New York. 1945 her work was awarded for the first time at the theater. For the costumes, staged by secret of the mother in the Music Box Theatre on Broadway her the Donaldson Award was presented. Two years later, she received a Tony Award, she could win again in 1962. 1951, which otherwise mainly active in the theater Ballard costumes for A Streetcar Named Desire, and was nominated for the Academy Awards in 1952 for an Academy Award.

Ballard was married twice. In 1930 she married William FR Ballard, marriage, from which comes the son, was divorced eight years later. From 1951 until his death in 1983 Ballard was married to songwriter and librettist Howard Dietz. Ballard died in 1993 at the age of 87 years in New York of cancer.
