Lucio Dalla

Lucio Dalla ( born March 4, 1943 in Bologna, † March 1, 2012 in Montreux, Switzerland ) was an Italian musician who was one of the most important of his country since the 1980s. The Cantautore was known for his most critical and poetic texts.

Career

For his 13th birthday Lucio Dalla received from his mother, Iole Melotti, given a clarinet. Early on, he learned through intensive practice of this instrument, and began already in the 1950s, his music career at the Rheno Dixieland band, a jazz band in his hometown of Bologna. Together with the Rhenos took Dalla in 1960 the first European Jazz Festival in Antibes part. In 1962 he joined the group The Flippers on, an Italian band that was especially successful in the 1960s, and there wrote his first contract. His debut as a singer, he was in 1964 with a fondness for the area of ​​soul music.

One of his most famous songs, Caruso ( 1986), a tribute to the opera singer Enrico Caruso, has been covered by numerous singers. The versions of Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli sold worldwide, many millions of times.

With the piece Attenti al Lupo on Cambio (1990 ) he had a great success: it sold in Italy 1.4 million copies and was heard in Germany often. In Germany he reached a large audience in the duet Die ma ned away with Konstantin Wecker.

Its the 2007 Italian tour with the name Il Contrario di Me led him through cities such as Rome, Milan, Naples, Florence, Livorno, Genoa and his home city of Bologna. The tour, for which there was also a CD with the same name, he finished in January 2008 in Catania.

Since 2010 there was, after 30 years, back concerts together with Francesco De Gregori. Dallas last album, the double CD Questo è amore, was released in November 2011.

Lucio Dalla died during a tour March 1, 2012 of a heart attack. The day before, he had given a concert in Montreux. He was Buried 4 March 2012, his birthday, in his hometown of Bologna. At the Requiem in the Church of St. Petronio alone 50,000 people participated. Among the mourners were: Eros Ramazzotti, Gianni Morandi, Luciano Ligabue.
