Lucio Russo

Lucio Russo ( born November 22, 1944 in Venice ) is an Italian physicist, mathematician and historian of science. He teaches at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome.

In the history of science, he reconstructed contributions of the Greek astronomer Hipparchus through analysis of his surviving works. He also reconstructed according to Plutarch by Seleucus of Seleucia defended heliocentrism of Aristarchus of Samos and dealt with the history of tidal theories from Hellenism to the present.

Lucio Russo is the author of The Forgotten Revolution ( Original Italian title: La rivoluzione dimenticata ), in which he attempts to prove that the Greek-speaking countries in the Hellenistic period ( 4th century to 2nd century BC), an explosion of objective knowledge experienced over the outer world. Science at that time was at least equally well developed as in the beginning of the so-called scientific revolution of the 16th century. It was then given sophisticated technology to which it is only in the 18th century was to refocus.
