Lucius Calpurnius Piso Frugi (usurper)

Piso Frugi († 261) was a Roman rival emperors.

Piso probably came from the gens Calpurnia. He supported the usurpation of Macriani against the rightful Emperor Gallienus and was therefore sent from Macrianus Maior, to fight against Gallienus remained loyal governor of the province of Achaea, Valens Thessalonicus. After the soldiers of Valens had proclaimed this to the emperor, also Piso took the title of emperor. However, he was killed shortly afterwards by the troops of his adversary.

The events surrounding Piso and Valens Thessalonicus are difficult to reconstruct. The only present source is generally considered unreliable Historia Augusta applicable. Perhaps the collection of Piso by the author of the Historia Augusta was also invented simple, can be considered safe only that Achaea was pulled from the conflict between Gallienus and the Macriani affected.
