Lucius Licinius Murena

Lucius Licinius Murena (* about 105 BC) was a politician of the late Roman Republic.

He was 83-81 BC at his eponymous father when as governor of the province of Asia a war against Mithridates of Pontus led. 75 or 74 BC he was quaestor, then 73-69 BC legate of Lucullus in the third war against Mithridates, 65 BC and 64 BC, praetor urbanus governor of the province Narbonensis. 63 BC, he applied successfully to the consulate for the following year. Although he was charged with unlawful application, but defended by Marcus Tullius Cicero ( Murena per speech ), Marcus Licinius Crassus and Quintus Hortensius Hortalus with success. He took as the designated Consul on December 5, 63 BC participated in the meeting of the senate, was in the decision on the fate of the conspirators. 62 BC, he served as Consul Decimus Junius Silanus, together with; they wrote before in a lex Licinia Iunia that law claims had to be laid down in Aerarium.
