Lucius Septimius

Lucius Septimius ( cognomen unknown; ? † 281) is only indistinctly protuberant Roman official, who between the years 274 ( end of the Gallic Empire ) and 286 ( usurpation of Carausius ) could have held office as praeses the province of Britannia Superior. The name is mentioned on a 1891 discovered in Corinium Dobunnorum inscription.

The historian Gerald Kreucher considered the possibility that Septimius it might be possible with an anonymous usurper, the 280 or 281 in Britain rose against Emperor Probus, equated, but this must remain speculation. According to a report in Zosimus the rebels on the advice of Victorinus was out, which is identical with the consul of the year 282 may initially raised to the governor, and then removed from it by cunning. As background, the survey, the military threat of the British coasts by pirates and especially an opening of Hadrian's Wall in the north are suspected in research.
