Lucius Volusius Maecianus

Lucius Volusius Maecianus lived in the 2nd century and was a pupil of lawyers Publius Salvius Julianus and Vindius Verus the first known Roman jurist from the equestrian order ( ordo equester ).

As consiliarius ( " Advisor " ), he had become the emperor in jurisprudence and in the legal correspondence with advice and support on the side. Besides serving as legal advisor to the Emperor Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, he was the author of jurisprudential works.

There are also occupied numerous functions of the knightly career in office for Volusius Maecianus: He served in the military post of Prefect fabrum and a cohort prefect. At the court of Antoninus Pius, he was secretary of a libellis, a studiis and responsible for the libraries. He was also prefect of transportation ( Prefect vehiculorum ) and the grain supply of Rome ( praefectus annonae ) and 160-162 Praefectus aegypti. Subsequently, he was included in the senatorial and held since 164, the function of a Prefect aerarii. In 166 he reached the Suffektkonsulat.
