Lucius
Lucius ( Lucius ) was a Roman first name ( praenomen ), which was rarely used as a family name ( nomen gentile ) and surname ( cognomen ). He was mostly reproduced only with the abbreviation L..
The name is probably derived from Latin lux " light " here and originally referred to an infant in daylight or dawn. Lucius could therefore also be brought into connection with lucens, the present participle of "light " from the Latin lucere and would therefore mean: bright, shiny, iridescent. Therefore, the adjective lucius is in the Binomenklatur biological species names often used, such as Esox lucius, the dazzling pike, the European pike. Was called to the Romans the pike Lucius. A derivation of the name Lucius from the Etruscan lucumo "King " is not completely excluded. Rather absurd is the connection of the name with Lucina, the Roman goddess of childbirth and midwifery ( Lucina " small light " refers to her attribute as goddess of the moon ). LUCIUS is the blank check for the name of the judge in the Roman form process.
