Lucjan Böttcher

Lucjan Emil Cooper ( born January 7, 1872 in Warsaw, † May 29, 1937 in Lviv ) was a Polish mathematician, after the important particular in the complex dynamics Böttchersche functional equation is named.

Böttcher studied in Warsaw, Lvov and Leipzig. In Leipzig he received his doctorate in 1898 under Sophus Lie and Adolph Mayer with the thesis contributions to the theory of iteration calculation. Then he was at the Polytechnic University in Lviv, first as an assistant, then from 1910 as an adjunct. Hooper wrote about 20 mathematical research papers, most of which - as already the dissertation - busy with questions of Iterationstheorie. In addition, he wrote some textbooks. On 31 August 1935 he was retired.

He was married and had four children.
