History

As in many communities in Cornwall leads you back the history of the place on a legendary patron saint. In this case, it is St. Ludgvan (also called St. Ludowanus ). Mentioned for the first time was the place in the Domesday Book, when it belonged to the estate Ludgvan - Lees. This included at that time the northern part Penwiths as well as parts of present-day St Ives. The current Ludvan lease is a small hamlet in the community.

In Ludgvan lies the hamlet Varfell, which is the root home of Davy family, including Sir Humphry Davy. It is claimed that Ludgvan was home to the last wild wolf in the United Kingdom. However, this has so far not been confirmed by historical sources.
