Ludvig Lorenz

Ludvig Valentin Lorenz ( born January 18, 1829 in Helsingør, † June 9, 1891 in Frederiksberg) was a Danish physicist. According to him, the Lorenz - Mie theory and the Lorenz gauge is named. Regardless of Maxwell he gave to the equations for electromagnetic waves and light. He is to be distinguished from Hendrik Lorentz ( born July 18, 1853 in Arnhem, † February 4, 1928 in Haarlem ), one of the pioneers of the theory of relativity, are from the equally important contributions to electrodynamics. The Lorenz gauge has long been attributed to Hendrik Lorentz. In the confusion probably the name similarity played a role.
