Ludwig Abel

Ludwig Abel (also: Louis Abel ) ( born January 14, 1835 in Eckart Berga, Thuringia, † August 13 1895 in Pasing ) was a German violinist and composer.

Life and work

Ludwig Abel received his training as a musician and violinist in the run by Hippolyte Chelard and Franz Liszt Weimar Court Orchestra and the Leipzig Conservatory, where he was a pupil of Ferdinand David. In 1857 he came as concertmaster and first violinist to Basel. In addition, he taught from 1860 to the reasoned by the Charitable Society of Violin Playing. In the fall of 1866 he gave up his points.

At the suggestion of the Bavarian court conductor Hans von Bülow - both had met in Basel in 1866 and organized common chamber music evenings - Abel in 1867 went as concert master to Munich. At the same time he was professor of violin and score reading at the Royal Bavarian Music School.

He wrote a violin concerto, a violin school and the etudes and duets for violin.
