Ludwig Emil Grimm

Ludwig Emil Grimm ( born March 14, 1790 in Hanau, † April 4, 1863 in Kassel) was a painter ( professor ), an etcher and engraver. He was the brother of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.

" from 1803 to 1805 attended the Lyceum Grimm in Kassel, and then studied at the Academy in Kassel. 1809 to 1817 he studied at the newly founded Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, which was interrupted from January 1814 to June 1814 by a volunteer military. 1829 Ludwig Emil Grimm became engaged to the 26 -year-old Marie Boettner, whom he married in 1832. A year later came his daughter Friederike, also called " Idekchen " to the world. In 1832 he received the long-awaited appointment as a professor and teacher of historical painting class at the " Academy of Fine Arts" in Kassel. His wife died in 1842; In 1844 he married again, the daughter of the theologian and General Superintendent Christoph Friedrich W. Ernst, Friederike Ernst. First, the young Grimm received instruction at the Academy in Kassel by Professor Kobold, shortly after he joined Professor Runge. Particularly well known are mainly the portraits of his brothers Wilhelm Grimm and Jacob Grimm, as well as the drawing of the "fairy woman " Dorothea cattle man from the year 1814. 1819 was an etching from this drawing. This unusual presentation of a fairy tale ornament band gave Wilhelm Grimm in the years 1815, realized this, however, until 1819 when the second edition of the "Children 's and Household Tales ". Several existing studies here show the development of drawing to the finished etching by Ludwig Emil Grimm. Ludwig Emil Grimm Prize

Since 2012, awards the town of Hanau, the Ludwig Emil Grimm Prize. The award is endowed with 10,000 euros, of which more 7000 Euro for the grand prize. The addition to the price of 3,000 euros is intended for young artists up to the age of 25 years. Major and minor prize will be awarded alternately annually.
