Ludwig Hess

Ludwig Hess ( born October 18, 1760 Zurich, † April 13, 1800 or April 16, 1800 ) was a Swiss landscape painter and engraver.

Life

Ludwig Hess, son of a butcher, first learned the father's occupation, to continue the family business. 1785 was Hess guild writer guild of the ram and 1790 Grand Council.

By dealing with Heinrich Wüest, where he had lessons since 1778, and Salomon Gessner, in which he learned in 1784, his talent was encouraged. He finally gave up his profession and in 1794 visited Florence and Rome. A thought lost until 2005 biography about Ludwig Hess was rediscovered in the Prints and Drawings of ETH Zurich in relation to any document by Carl Gotthard Grass.
