Ludwig Merzbacher

Ludwig Merzbacher ( born February 9, 1875 in Florence, Tuscany, † 1942) was a German psychiatrist, who described with Friedrich Christoph Pelizaeus first Pelizaeus -Merzbacher disease.

He studied in Munich, Strasbourg and Berlin and graduated in 1900 in Strasbourg. He then worked until 1902 as an assistant at the Physiological Institute in Strasbourg, then to 1904 in the psychiatric clinic in Freiburg, Heidelberg and from 1904 to 1906 in 1906/1907 in Munich in the laboratory of Alois Alzheimer. 1906 to 1910 he was in Tübingen, where he habilitated in 1906. In 1910 he was appointed director of the laboratory at the psychiatric hospital in Buenos Aires. 1914-1919 he was director of the pathological department of the " Clínica Modelö " and from 1924 to senior physician at the German Hospital in Buenos Aires.
