Ludwig Stubbendorf

Ludwig Stubbendorff ( born February 24, 1906 in Turloff at Schwerin; † July 17, 1941 ) was a German rider.

Stubbendorff was the son of a forester. He passed his Abitur in Schwerin, in consequence, he joined the 2nd ( Prussian ) Artillery Regiment as a volunteer at. In 1930 he was delegated on the basis of his talent for equestrian Cavalry School Hannover. Here he was for two years and students were subsequently adopted. Initially working as a dressage rider, he later moved into the barn versatility.

At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 he won the gold medal in eventing, both in single as well as with the team on Nurmi. Stubbendorff was the only German Olympic champion in 1936, has not been promoted for its success.

After his transfer from the 9 / 22 Artillery Regiment Verden on 31st March 1939, he fell on 17 July 1941 as a division commander of the I. / Artillery Regiment 1 during the Second World War on the Eastern Front in Priber on the Dnieper. His grave is located at the runway Mogilev - Gomel in Nikonowitschi, about 12 km north west of Stary Bychow.
