Ludwig von Siegen

Ludwig von Siegen ( * 1609, † 1680) developed the scraping technique (also mezzotint ), one of the graphical gravure printing process.

Ludwig von Siegen worked at the court of Countess Amelie Elisabeth of Hesse. Her portrait, which he created in 1642, is considered the earliest work of mezzotint.
