Ludwig von Wallmoden-Gimborn

Theo Ludwig Georg Graf von Wallmoden ( born February 6, 1769 in Vienna, † March 22, 1862 ) was an Austrian general of cavalry.

Life

Wallmoden was born the son of the former British ambassador to Austria. His father Johann Ludwig Count von Wallmoden - Gimborn (1736-1811) was an illegitimate son of King George II Augustus, of Great Britain and Ireland and Elector of Brunswick- Lüneburg ( electoral Hanover ).

He initially joined in Hanover, 1790 in Prussian and Austrian military service in 1795. Here distinguished himself in the campaigns of 1796-1801 as a partisan and was also related to repeated diplomatic missions.

In 1809 he graduated from the London subsidy contract between Austria and England. On his return to Vienna he took part with distinction at the Battle of Wagram. After the Peace of Vienna, he was promoted to field marshal lieutenant and displaced as a divisional commander in Bohemia.

1813 Wallmoden entered the service of the Russian army. He was commander of the Russian-German Legion, which he united with the Army of the North. He argued with his corps not only against the superior forces of General Davout, but also defeated the French division Pécheux in the Battle of the Goehrde and then penetrated in Schleswig, which he compelled the Danes to peace.

After the Second Peace of Paris in 1817, he went back into Austrian service, and was commander of the left in the Kingdom of Naples Austrian troops. In 1821 he commanded the majority of the specific Austrian army against Naples and occupied in June, the island of Sicily, where he remained until 1823. He then worked as commander of the 1st Army Corps in northern Italy and as a military commander of Milan, until he retired in 1848.
