Luigi Alamanni

Luigi Alamanni (* March 6, 1495 in Florence, Italy, † April 18, 1556 in Amboise, France ) was an Italian poet and humanist.

Life

Alamanni was an opponent of Giulio de ' Medici. After the discovery of the uprising in 1522 he managed to escape with Zanobi Buondelmonte to Venice and then to France. After the fall of the Medici family, he was able to return to Florence in 1527. 1529 he was a representative of Florence in the Emperor Charles V. in Savona. In 1530 he was expelled from Genoa, where he was staying at the time Florentine representatives, and fled again to France, because Florence was besieged by the imperial troops. The case of Florence and the return of the Medici, who banished him immediately, made a return impossible, which is why he tried to make himself popular at the French court. Through its education and skill he found the confidence of the French kings Francis I and Henry II.

In 1539, he returned as secretary to Cardinal Ippolito d' Este for over a year to Italy. In 1541 he was Ambassador Francis I in Venice, in 1544 in Venice. For the sometimes alleged embassy to the Emperor Charles V. there is no evidence. In 1551 he should take on behalf of Henry II Genoa on the side of France, but he had no success. 1553 he brought Mary Tudor gifts and congratulations of the French king to be crowned. Him his final years Alamanni devoted intensive revision of his writings - His fame rests mainly on the inspired by the Api of Cosimo Rucellai poem about farming - an important example of the Franco- Italian cultural exchange during the Renaissance.
