Luigi Apolloni

Luigi Apolloni ( born 2 May 1967 in Frascati, Lazio Region, Italy ) is a retired Italian footballer and current coach.

Career

Club career

Apolloni began his career in the season 1983/84 with AS Lodigiani in Serie C2. In the following two seasons, he played for AC Pistoiese, before moving to AC Reggiana 1986.

In 1987, Apolloni to Serie B for AC Parma. There he formed with Lorenzo Minotti 's central defense. Under coach Nevio Scala succeeded in 1990, the promotion to Serie A and immediately qualify for the UEFA Cup. In 1992, the Coppa Italia was won. In Europe Cup Winners' Cup in the following season the final was reached, but the Arsenal FC prevailed 1-0. 1999 Italian Cup was won again.

In autumn 1999 Apolloni moved to Hellas Verona, where he ended his active career after relegation to the B 2001 series.

National

Apolloni played since his debut on 27 May 1994 against Finland 15 times for Italy. One time he was going to succeed as a scorer. He was runner-up in 1994 and was in the squad at the European Championships in 1996.

Coaching career

After Apolloni was already some time as assistant coach at FC Modena worked, he took over in January 2009 for the first time the post of head coach at Modena. Originally planned as a temporary solution, he managed with the team on the final day of the 2008/09 season in the league in Serie B. By a 1-0 away victory at the U.S. Triestina FC Modena succeeded thanks to a simultaneous loss of Rimini Calcio (0: 2 of AS Cittadella ), the snap on the non- relegation places and remaining in the second division. In the following year he succeeded with the club avoid relegation, the end of season remained Modena with 54 points three points above the relegation zone.

In July 2010 he left the club and was shortly after presented as the new head coach of Premier League rivals U.S. Grosseto. In September 2010, Apolloni, however, was already released in U.S. Grosseto again.
