Luigi Einaudi

Luigi Einaudi Numa Lorenzo ( born March 24, 1874 in Carrų / Piedmont; † 30 October 1961, in Rome ) was an Italian president and finance experts.

Life

Academic Career

Einaudi ended 1895, the law school at the University of Turin. He taught from 1903 to 1949 as a Professor of Finance in Turin and was a lecturer at the Polytechnic of Turin and the Bocconi University in Milan. Until 1926 he was editor of La Stampa and Corriere della Sera and correspondent of British weekly The Economist. Einaudi was the editor of the magazines La Reforma Sociale (1900-1935) and Rivista di Storia Economica ( 1936-1943 ).

Policy

As a member of the Senate ( 1919 ) he advocated for a liberal economic policy and was an opponent of protectionism. As an opponent of fascism, he fled in 1943 via Fenêtre de Durand in Switzerland. He returned in 1945 returned to Italy and was from 1945 to 1948 Governor of the Bank of Italy. From 1946 to 1948 he was the deputy of Partito Liberal Italiano Constituent Assembly, from 1948 member of the Senate. He was Deputy Prime Minister and Budget Minister in the fourth De Gasperi cabinet 1947/48. On 11 May 1948 he was elected on the fourth ballot for president, his term ended in 1955.

In 1918, Einaudi had spoken under the pseudonym Junius for a federal Europe. After 1945, he advocated the European Political Community, which should be established in the framework of the Treaty on European Defence Community.

Economic policy, fought Einaudi by the central bank financed budget deficits. The reorganization of the state budget and the stabilization of the lira he succeeded at the current level of inflation without monetary reform. Much like Jacques Rueff, Ludwig Erhard and Reinhard Kamitz he could be a professor concept with great success practically apply and advance the reconstruction determined.

Family

Einaudi was married to Ida Pellegrini. They have three sons, including the publisher Giulio Einaudi. The composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi is a grandson Luigi Einaudi.
