Luigi Legnani

Luigi Rinaldo Legnani ( born November 7, 1790 in Ferrara, † August 5, 1877 in Ravenna ) was an Italian singer, guitarist, composer and instrument builder.

Life

With 17 years Legnani opera roles sung in the old theater to Ravenna and performed there in 1816 and later also in Milan as a guitarist.

From 1819 worked Legnani for several years as a guitarist in Vienna. Josef Zuth defines the influence Legnanis the Vienna guitaristic twofold: on the one hand, his virtuoso technique have pointed out the "limits to reach ', on the other hand have Legnani with the played by him guitar model the Viennese luthiers, especially Johann Georg Stauffer and his son Johann Anton, essential given impetus.

Work

Legnanis plants reach the opus number 250 and offer a rich range of solo and chamber works for guitar. Special recognition acquired the 36 Caprices ( Op. 20), partly due to its sometimes very high demands on the game speed.
