Luigi Macchi

Luigi Cardinal Macchi ( born March 3 1832 in Viterbo, Viterbo, Italy, † March 29, 1907 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Life

Macchi was descended from a noble family and was a nephew of the influential Cardinal Vincenzo Macchi ( 1770-1860 ). He studied at the University La Sapienza in Rome and became a Doctor of Law. In 1859 he was ordained a priest by Pope Pius IX and got. conferred the title of papal prelate house. After his uncle was died in 1860, Macchi took over the office of the Vice President of the Hospice of Diocletian in Rome. The late Cardinal Dean Luigi Amat di San Filippo e Sassari appointed him his vicar, then he held the same office under Costantino Patrizi Naro Cardinal. From 1875 he headed the Apostolic Chamber. In 1886 he was prefect of the Apostolic Palace.

Pius ' successor, Leo XIII. Macchi took on February 11, 1889 in the College of Cardinals, and appointed him cardinal deacon of Santa Maria in Aquiro. A year later he was made pope to a benefice of Subiaco. He held various offices of the Curia and moved in 1896 to the title of Santa Maria in Via Lata diakonia, he also was in 1896 cardinal deacon. In this capacity, he announced after the conclave in 1903, Pope Pius X, whom he crowned at the inauguration on 9 August 1903. After the conclave, the aging Cardinal from the public withdrew. In 1904 he gave up the office of Kommendatarabts of Subiaco. He died three years later and was in the church of Santa Maria in Portico in Rome. buried.
