Luigi Magni

Luigi Magni ( born March 21, 1928 in Rome, † October 27, 2013 ) was an Italian screenwriter and film director.

Life

Magni studied literature, but broke not finish off and devoted himself to writing stage plays, in which he especially in collaboration with Pietro Garinei and Sandro Giovannini at many musical success comedies like Il giorno della tartaruga, Ciao Rudy, viola, violino, viola d' amore and of course Rugantino worked. In 1956, he began his career as a screenwriter and as a director in 1968 with Faustina, which with his second film, In the Year of Our Lord from the following year with an all-star cast, a superb portrait of Rome of 1825 succeeded; his following films showed Magni's interest in this time and were excellently equipped. Its content reflected the political struggle for freedom against the ecclesiastical power, which he vehemently advocated anti-clerical positions.

Magni, the "king of the movie about Rome," was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on May 2, 1996; he received in 2008 an honorary David for his life's work.
