Luigi Meneghello
Luigi Meneghello ( born February 16, 1922 in Malo at Vicenza; † 26 June 2007 Thiene in Vicenza ) was an Italian author. He is considered one of the most original exponents of Italian literature in the 20th century.
Life
Luigi Meneghello was Italian partisans and resistance fighters during the Second World War. He lived since 1947 in the UK and did not return until 2000 back to Italy.
Meneghello in 1963 with his work " Libera nos a malo" known. The book with the title of a play on words between " Deliver us from evil" and " Deliver us in Malo " is a mixture of novel, essay and sociological study, in which he reflects on his childhood in the northern Italian village of Malo at Vicenza. The work applies to literary critics as one of the most important Italian books of the 20th century.
The autobiographical novel "The Little Master " from 1964 counts the opinion of the critics of the important features of the Italian resistance and new beginnings after the end of World War II. He is one of the few translated into German works of the North Italian. "The Little Master " was filmed by the Italian director Daniele Luchetti 1998.
A specific feature in Meneghellos style was the frequent inclusion of English quotes and dialectal elements of his home in Vicenza his usually high Italian texts.
In 2007 he was awarded the Antonio Feltrinelli Prize -.
