Luigi Sincero

Luigi Cardinal Sincero ( born March 26, 1870 in Trino Vercelli, Italy, † February 7, 1936 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Luigi Sincero studied in Rome and Turin, the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology in 1892, and received the sacrament of Holy Orders. After further study, he became chancellor of the Pontifical Lombard College in Rome as well as a faculty member of the Seminary of Vercelli and canon at the city's cathedral in 1894. From 1908 to 1920 he worked as an auditor at the Roman Court, and was in 1917 Secretary of the Pontifical Commission for the Authentic Interpretation of the Code of Canon Law. In 1919 he became secretary of the College of Cardinals. At the conclave of 1922 he was also secretary.

On May 23, 1923, he was named by Pope Pius XI. cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Giorgio in Velabro and was appointed while retaining its title Diakonia cardinal priest per hac vice on 17 December 1928. On January 11, 1929, he appointed him Titular Archbishop of Petra in Palestine and two days later gave him a bishop.

Cardinal Sincero was from 1926 -1936 ( Pro ) Secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. He acted as papal legate to the Pope in many important events abroad. On March 13, 1933 he was appointed cardinal bishop of Palestrina. In 1934 he became president of the Pontifical Commission for the Codification of Oriental Canon Law and of the Pontifical Commission for the Authentic Interpretation of the Code of Canon Law. From 1935 he headed the Pontifical Commission for the Revision of the Church Law of the Oriental Churches.

Luigi Sincero died on 7 February 1936 in Rome and was buried in the cemetery of his home town.
