Luigi Taveri

Luigi Taveri ( born September 19, 1929 in Horgen, Canton Zurich, Switzerland ) is a former Swiss motorcycle racer and three-time world champion in the Motorcycle World Championship.

Career

Luigi Taveri started his international racing career in 1953 in the 350 cc class. After some difficult years in which he was unsuccessful in different classes with labels Moto Guzzi, Norton, MV Agusta, MZ and Ducati, he moved in 1962 to Honda. 1962, 1964 and 1966, he won for the Japanese manufacturer the world title in the 125 cc class.

In his 143 starts in the Motorcycle World Championship Luigi Taveri reach 30 wins, 89 podiums and 28 fastest laps. Taveri succeeded as far only driver in all ridden classes in his time - to win championship points - including the sidecar in which the boat by Hans Haldemann sixth in his home Grand Prix, he was in 1954.

Taveri lives in Samstagern (municipality Richterswil ) and actively participates in veterans race.
