Luing ( Scottish Gaelic: An t - Eilean Luinn ) one of the Slate Islands is ( German " Slate Islands "). It is located in Lorne west of Argyll in Scotland, about 26 miles south of Oban. It is one of the Inner Hebrides. The island has about 200 inhabitants in 2007. Most live in the places Cullipool, Toberonochy ( Scottish Gaelic: Tobar Dhonnchaidh ) and Black Mill Bay.

There is a ferry service between the island and the place Cuan on the island of rope.

The islanders live mainly from tourism, the lobster fishery and cattle. By 1939, the breaking of shale played a significant role. There were two large quarries in Toberonochy and Cullipool as well as a smaller port at Mary. Slate from Luing were used for example in the construction of the University of Glasgow.

To the south lie the ruins of Kilchatton Chapel. In Toberonochy is Dun Leccamore, a Iron Age Dun.

When Scottish Sanges, sports and storytelling festival MOD despite a small population of the island were three residents of Luing gold medals:
