History
Luino was founded by the Romans under the name Luvinum. Since the city on the shortest path from Lake Maggiore to Lake Lugano and the cities of Como and Milan were well connected, Luino was conflicting and changing rulers in the Middle Ages bone of contention. Therefore, the city from 1439 was dominated by the Rusca from Como; then in the 16th century by the Swiss.
