Morales painted only religious subjects who expressed an intense piety, which earned him the popular nickname El Divino. King Philip II of Spain, invited him to participate in the facilities of the Real Sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, displeased Morales "Christ ," and he dismissed him. His style was influenced by the Italian masters, especially of Leonardo da Vinci, and is essentially Mannerist.
