Luiz Alberto Figueiredo

Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado ( born July 17, 1955 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian lawyer and diplomat, since August 26, 2013 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.

Life and work

He graduated in law from the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro ( UERJ ) in 1977 and then graduated from the Rio Branco Institute ( IrBr ). Two years before his appointment as Prime Minister by President Dilma Rousseff, he served as Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations ( UN).

As a diplomat Luiz Figueiredo was ahead of its position at the UN in the embassies in London, Washington and Ottawa, as well as Deputy Head of Mission of Brazil to UNESCO in Paris. In other positions, he befasßte to multilateral issues such as disarmament, oceans, Antarctica, space, health and the environment.

Luiz Figueiredo served as Director of the Department of Environment and special tasks 2005 to 2010. Ascended he was promoted to the rank of ambassador in 2009 and became Secretary of State for the Environment, Energy, Science and Technology in 2011. At the UN, he was responsible for all Brazilian Government in negotiations on the environment, technology, energy, science, oceans and outer space. Ambassador Figueiredo Machado served since 2005 as the chief negotiator of Brazil in the process of climate change.
