Luiz Ruffato

Luiz Ruffato ( born February 1961 in Cataguases, Minas Gerais ) is a Brazilian writer.

Ruffato initially worked as a salesman, textile workers and fitter while studying journalism at Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora ( UFJF ). He then worked as a journalist in São Paulo. Since his first, 2001 and 2010, published in the seventh edition of Roman Eles eram muitos cavalos ( German Edition: There were many horses, 2012), won the prestigious Prêmio São Paulo the Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte ( APCA ) and the Machado de - Assis prize of the Fundação Biblioteca Nacional, he is considered one of the most important contemporary Brazilian writer. In 2003 he finished his work as a journalist to work exclusively as a writer since then. His incurred 2005-2011 five-volume novel cycle Inferno PROVISORIO ( Engl.: Preliminary hell) tells the story of the Brazilian workers, immigrants and internal migrants. For the third volume of this cycle, Vista parcial noite there, he received the 2006 Prêmio Jabuti, the fifth volume, Domingos sem deus 2013 was awarded the Premio Casa de las Américas. Luiz Ruffato was literary opening speaker of the 65th Frankfurt Book Fair 2013.
