Lukas Vischer (collector)

Lukas Vischer ( born October 24, 1780 in Basel, † December 23, 1840 in Castle Ebenrain in Sissach ) was a Swiss businessman and, like his father, a talented amateur artist. From ethnological interest are his depictions of Creek Indians in the United States of America and his studies of Mexican life. During his nine -year stay in the Central American country he wore one of the most important European collections of pre-Columbian sculpture and ceramics together. It is now in the Museum der Kulturen Basel, the old Ethnological Museum of the City.
