Lukavac

Lukavac (Cyrillic Лукавац ) is a small town in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the capital and administrative center of the homonymous municipality in Tuzla Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

History

A settlement can be demonstrated to the Bronze Age. The city's name was first mentioned in 1528, in which between Gornji ( Upper) and Donji was ( sub) Lukavac distinguished. In the Austrian census of 1885, the two parts as Lukavac Turski ( Turkish ) and Lukavac be srpski (Serbian ) refers.

From Bosnia war Lukavac City was affected only to a small degree. Some places like Smoluća were, however, right on the front line and were largely destroyed.

Geography

Lukavac lies in the valley of the Spreča vale between Tuzla and Doboj to 186 m altitude. In the municipal area the foothills of the three low mountain Ozren extend ( to the west), Konjuh ( in the south) and Majevica ( in the north). Between Lukavac and Tuzla is the lake Modrac that is with an area of ​​17 km ², one of the largest reservoirs in the country and attracts numerous water sports and fishing.

Neighboring municipalities are Banovići, Gracanica, Maglaj, Petrovo, Srebrenik, Tuzla, Zavidovići and Živinice.

At the 1991 census, the municipality had 57 070 inhabitants Lukavac.

Economy

Based on the salt, limestone and lignite deposits in the area, a relatively significant chemical industry has developed (soda and cement factory). The Modrac Lake is to be used by a small hydroelectric power plant (3 MW) for energy production.

Traffic

The Valley of Spreča vale is the shortest connection between the valleys of the Bosna and Drina and therefore long been an important trade and traffic. Today, run the railway Tuzla -Doboj and the main road M4.
