Luke Donald

Luke Campbell Donald, MBE ( born December 7, 1977 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire ) is a British professional golfer who plays mainly on the U.S. PGA TOUR, but also a member of the PGA European Tour. From May 2011 to August 2012, he was - with brief interruptions - Leading the World Golf Rankings.

Luke Donald was how many young British golfers an athletic scholarship at an American university. He graduated from Northwestern University. In 1999 he won the Men's Singles title at the University Championships of the United States of America ( NCAA men's title). He turned professional in 2001 and won the following year the Southern Farm Bureau Classic. In 2004 he won the Omega European Masters and the Scandinavian Masters on the European Tour. In the same year he was a member of the victorious European Ryder Cup teams and won the WGC - World Cup for England on the side of his partner Paul Casey. After a shared seventh place finish at the AT & T National Pro -Am in Pebble Beach, Donald won the Honda Classic in March 2006 by a margin of two strokes. He had gone as a split leading to the final round. Unlike the BMW International Open, where he had to hand the victory last year in the final round to David Howell ( and shared twelfth was ), he could claim the top spot this time. After a brilliant approach shot on the 18th fairway and several crucial putts before, Donald tournament victory, secured his first "real" on the PGA Tour. The Southern Farm Bureau Classic 2002 he won the club house, than after 54 holes, the tournament had to be terminated because of the continuous rain.

In early 2005 Donald reached the Top 20 in the World Golf Rankings and has advanced in the course of 2006, already in the top 10. He was the bestklassierte British golfers. Therefore it was with Tom Watson had the honor Jack Nicklaus on the last two rounds of golf of his professional career, to be allowed to accompany at the British Open in 2005 at the Old Course at St Andrews. After the victory at the BMW PGA Championship in late May 2011, he reached for the first time in his career # 1 in the World Golf Rankings. In early March 2012, he was replaced by Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy. Two weeks later Donald took back the lead and has since repeatedly alternated with McIroy at the top.

As the first golfer in history Donald won in 2011 both the money list ( Race to Dubai) of the European Tour and the PGA Tour and was also elected to two tournament series for Player of the Year. On May 23, 2012, he was honored by the European Tour with an Honorary Life Membership in recognition of his achievements in the 2011 season.
