Luke Foxe

Luke Fox, also Luke Foxe ( born October 20, 1586 Kingston upon Hull, † July 15, 1635 ) was an English explorer. He searched for the Northwest Passage in 1631 in North America by the Western Hudson Bay besegelte. Finally, he realized that no passage is possible here. According to him, the Foxe Peninsula, the Foxe Channel and Foxe Basin that have been designated.

Fox himself was on his travels 27 geographical locations a name, eight of which still bear the name. One of them is the Roes Welcome Sound between Southampton Island and the Canadian mainland, which he named after his friend and sponsor Sir Thomas Roe.
