Luke Ravenstahl

Luke Ravenstahl ( born February 6, 1980 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American politician and since September 2006 the mayor of Pittsburgh. Ravenstahl was the youngest mayor in the history of the city and the youngest mayor of a major city in American history when he was appointed at age 26.

Political career

The one born in Troy Hill, a district in the north of Pittsburgh Ravenstahl is a member of the Democratic Party. His political career began in 2003. At the age of 23, just four months after his college degree, he successfully ran for a seat on the city council. In 2004 and 2005 he was elected to the office of City Council President. After the death of the incumbent mayor Bob O'Connor on 1 September 2006 Ravenstahl was appointed as his successor and confirmed in the general election in 2007 with 63.19 % of votes in office. 2009, at the re-election for a second term, he was able to beat its competitors again.
