Łuknajno Lake

The Jezioro Łuknajno ( German Lucknainer Lake ) is a 6.8 km ² large lake in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. It is located in a biosphere reserve and is protected under the Ramsar Convention.

Five kilometers east Mikołajki and located near the northwest corner of the Śniardwy, the largest Polish lake, it is 3.3 km long, averages 0.6 m and a maximum of 3 m deep. Lakeside is the eponymous Łuknajno.

The lake is a nature reserve and since 1977 a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and Ramsar Site. Its meaning he wins as a breeding area for waterfowl such as grebes, Water Rail, Moorhen, Grey Heron, bearded tits, bald eagles, osprey, red kites, Cormorant and Tern. For a long time, the lake is as a unique habitat for the mute swan (Latin: Cygnus olor ) is known, the nests here in large numbers. For Mauser it can be up to 2000 birds. The lake is part of a larger protected area of Mazury Landscape Park.
