Lukulu

Lukulu is a market town in the Western Province of Zambia. It is located 1,034 meters above sea level and is the seat of the administrative district of the same name with 68 375 inhabitants ( 2000 census ) and has even more than 3,000 inhabitants ( 2006).

Geography

Lukulu is located on the Zambezi River. Below Lukulu the Barotseebene opens with a several tens of meters thick sand layer, which is flooded every year and forms a considerable groundwater reservoir.

Economy and infrastructure

Here the greatest success in reducing poverty have been achieved since 1998. The most important economic product of this district is fish from the Zambezi River.
